The Misfits - Beware 7" (1980)

Can't pass up a classic, before the Misfits became the decor of skateboards, hoodies, and the back of just about every mall punks expensive leather jacket that was way too big for them they were actually a really original band doing something completely different to anything else coming out of the States. Forget about the reformed Misfits that featured Michael Graves, guy was a douchebag and the music sucked! The Beware 7" is a compilation of sorts that features a stack of songs off various other singles but more important features my favorite Misfits song second only to 'Hybrid Moments'.

"ONE LAST CARESS"

What a fucking ripper! Interestingly enough this 7" was pressed to 3120 copies in the UK to promote their 1979 tour. Unfortunately the sleeve artwork was not finished in time, so it wasn't made public until January 1980. Regardless, as far as Misfits records are concerned, this is my favorite, it has everything one could hope for. Such a shame most "Misfits" fans these days don't appreciate the brilliance that is vinyl which they as a band were much more well suited to.

Kriegshog - Hardcore Hell 7" (2007)

Wow, just fucking wow is the only thing I really need to say about this record. Meet Kriegshog, Japan's answer to Asocial. This record is so amazing its definetly in my top ten greatest records from the last decade. The blistering ferocity of the guitars, the harsh yet slighly reverbed vocals and the tight as fuck drumming make this a Swedish punk fans' wet dream.

Bellicose Minds - Buzz or Howl Demo Tape (2010)

Holy fucking shit, get out your eyeliner and fishnet shirts because this is amazing. Bellicose Minds from Portland Oregon are one of those bands that have nestled themselves nicely between the darkwave/post punk revival that's recently hit the states alongside other fine purveyors of gothdom such as the Estranged, Spectres and Arctic Flowers. What really blows me away about this tape is its so raw that it could literally fool anyone into believing this was recorded in the early eighties.

There's a bit of everything in this cassette: Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division, Bauhaus etc. But the
vocals are the real treat here: haunting, disturbing and droned and not the kind of droned like Andrew Eldritch's Monster Mash vocals either and both the keyboards and guitars during 'Tension Building' sends shivers down your spine. Massive thanks to Terminal Escape for making this demo available to me. I'm expecting copies of their upcoming 7" very shortly!

Disclose - Visions of War 7" (1996)

Originally released as a picture disc, the Disclose Visions of War 7" along with their debut album Tragedy are in my opinion there best works. D-beat master Kawakami (RIP) hit the nail on the head with this release that forever concreted Disclose as one of the noisiest punk bands to ever exist. Download with confidence, this is one of my favorite records ever.

Deathcharge - Demo (2004)

Right I've been half arsing everything this week, its been a killer. This weekend is definetly going to kill me as I've got so much shit to do. So for your listening pleasure I present to you the elusive Deathcharge demo CD-R that was released in 2004. Only a very few of these copies were ever made with the purpose of being sent to prospective record labels. They weren't supposed to be made public which makes me wonder why because it sounds fucking brilliant!

In case you've been living under a rock the last few years, Deathcharge are credited with being a very true to life Discharge clone. They ended up releasing a 1/2 EP, and two 7 inches. The more recent release "Hangman/New Dark Age" which instead of being straightforward D-beat in fact sounds a lot more like Anti-Sect with a lot of Deathrock elements to it which incidently this demo sounds more similar to.
Enjoy! May your weekend be as painful as mine.

*I've been instructed by Adam from Deathcharge to remove the link and with respect to the band have done so, sorry!

Draft Dodger - First Past the Last Post LP (2005)

Released on Endless Blockades in 2005, First Past the Last Post contains some of the most potent Australian Hardcore ever from Brisbane's finest. Make no mistake, this LP will rip you a new arsehole after listening to it. Along with this LP, Draft Dodger also released a demo tape, a rehearsal CD-R and a seven inch entitled Guantanamo Bay Holiday. Featuring the lyrical genius of Neil Bramley who was previously in Bjelke-Petersen Youth and B.A Barracus later went on to front Teargas.

False Confession - Self titled 7" (1984)

Ever find a record of interest in a store but you don't buy it because you want to try before you buy? Well unfortunately this happened with False Confession, an early hardcore punk band from the 80's in California who manly believe coined the term "nardcore" (referring to the city of Oxnard where they were based).

Politically charged lyrics combined with highly abrasive and killer guitar solos, this record has a very thrashy element to it but its still quite clearly tied to its punk roots. I refer to this record as the classic that got away because they were
only charging $20 for it and its about double that online!

Mishap - Self Titled 7" (2002)

Before Municipal Waste and Toxic Holocaust made punk and metal crossover in vogue during 2007-2010 many people overlook the authenticity of their earlier harsher recordings. For the record, I've never liked Municipal Waste however Toxic Holocaust I still hold in high regard. Around the time said bands were starting out, another band out of Boston who played in a similar vein however associated more closely to 80's punk similar to English Dogs released perhaps one of the most underrated 7 inches in the last decade.

Meet Mishap, a group of punks who played fast loud and aggressive metal punk in an entire country where crust punk was the rule and anything else was often swept to the wayside and not even given a second thought. When I picked up this baby, the cover didn't really do it for me, I thought possibly they could of been some obscure crust band or something using rather generic imagery, turning over though I thought I'd give it a shot, the band looked cool (call me shallow) but fuck when I put the needle on this record I thought this was fucking brilliant and why hadn't this band been given any recognition?!

Unfortunetly Mishap like so many great bands before them only released one 7" and disappeared after a couple of years. I highly recommend this 7" if you enjoy metal punk crossover this band is for you!

Nightgaun - Self titled 7" (2010)

Right so I got this 7" last year and I found out about Nightgaun through Sean from Damaging Noise Blog as he posted the Leprosy Demo tape alongside the Nightgaun demo. Upon hearing it I was blown away thinking: "Fuck these guys are unreal!" I then hassled the bass player Gerson via myspace if he had any demos left, he sent me the issue of the tape which was on orange cassette and with a green cover but also the just out 7" which was on green vinyl limited to 75 and an alternative cover!

To my knowledge you can still get this 7" and I can't recommended highly enough. Nightgaun are crossing lines with a number of different influences among them Crucifix,
and although I can't pinpoint it as I write this there is something very Japanese in this record. Be the judge yourself, you won't be disappointed if you buy this record!

Tasmanian Punk band featuring Simon of Bastard Squad and Distroy. They're style reminds me of Anti-Sect with a lot of thrash elements, very different to a lot of stuff going around at the moment. I really enjoy this tape. Get a copy and you won't be disappointed! 10 tracks in total.

Lip Cream - Kill the IBM Cassette Tape (1984)

Lip Cream alongside Gauze stand out as one of the classic early Japanese punk bands that incorporated a lot of hardcore and thrash influence into their powerful music. The Kill the IBM cassette is a highly sort after acquisition that will set you back around the $300(!) mark but one well worth acquiring. Alternatively in recent years its been released as both a bootleg 7" and a bootleg 12" containing live tracks on the 12" variation. Lip Cream later went on to release a number of highly successful albums and instead of sticking to the more boppy punk sound they originally produced headed towards flat out heavy thrash that too is worthy of merit.

ZOUO - The Final Agony 7" (1983)

Whilst many can argue ZOUO were GISM impersonators, lyrically they were a lot more geared towards the satanic elements present in Bathory, whilst demonstrating they're own musical abilities in a much darker vein. The AA record label that The Final Agony was released on belonged to members of Laughin' Nose. A highly sort after 7", its generally believed its one of the harder Japanese HC records to source. Enjoy with confidence

Cassettes: Pricing and Terms

I can cut you very good deals with manufacturing quality cassettes as my primary concern is covering the cost of the cassettes and the shipping. If you were looking to get 50 cassettes made at ten minutes each side (C-20) you would be charged around the $100 mark but could potentially be slightly more if your ordering from overseas due to shipping costs. All cassettes are made to the length of the recording so it doesnt matter if its 2 minutes or 60 minutes long. I also copy the A side onto the B Side so you don't need to constantly rewind the cassette.

So as a general rule the costs would run as (prices in AUD):

50 Cassettes: $100

100 Cassettes: $180

150 Cassettes: $260

This is inclusive of plastic tape covers but doesn't include tape inserts which I can also do for an extra $10 per 50 cassettes. I also have a variety of colours which I can do at no extra cost. Manufacturing these cassettes are done at my discretion, as they will be put out on my label, and as I don't charge for time involved in copying the cassettes as such I ask that for every fifty cassettes produced I take 10% to sell through my distro.

The time it takes to make these cassettes varies of course with the postal service but expected times in Australia would range from three weeks to a month after a master copy and payment has been given. Overseas buyers would be expected to receive copies within one and half to two months after a master copy and payment is given, this is due to the postal service delivery at the cheapest rates, if you prefer express postage incurring costs will apply.

Vaurio - Sortoa Ja Vainoa 7" (1983 Unreleased)

When I picked up this record I figured it was just a repress of an already existing 7", how wrong I was! Apparently this record was never released and only a handful of test pressings were floating about the place and was later pressed in 2007 with Propaganda Records and Feral Ward. Vaurio were one of the last punk bands to appear on the contentious Rock-O-Rama label and as such didn't quite receive the recognition they deserved, Finnish Hardcore of course being dominated by the likes of KAAOS, Riistetyt and Appendix. Whilst these bands concentrated predominately on fast and aggressive punk rock, Vaurio added a lot of rock & roll elements and a more upbeat 77 punk sound similar to their Finnish predecessors LAMA.

Germ Attak - Cruxshadow (2010)

Without a doubt, this LP was definitely a serious contender for the best release of 2010 in my personal opinion along side the Spectres LP and the Raw'Arse demo tape. Germ Attak have been at the forefront of the new wave of raw punk sound since they released their Canadian Concentration Camp 7" which I consider to be a modern classic in vein of Disorder and Chaos U.K. This release however exemplifies the bands musical progression over the years and contains elements of Killing Joke, Lunatic Fringe and Uproar. A pure necessity for this decade.

Rikk Agnew - All By Myself (1982)

Perhaps one of the greatest American punk guitarists to date, Rikk Agnew is well known for his work with Social Distortion, Adolescents and Christian Death but after his departure shortly after the release of "Only Theatre of Pain" he worked on his own solo album aptly titled: "All By Myself" which featured songs that were originally expected to be on the second Adolescents album but ended up being on the first D.I. LP "Ancient Artifacts." The brilliance of Agnews' song writing abilities I believe can be summed up in this release which retains elements of American Punk and Deathrock to create something truly in a class of its own.
